The Hunt For a Green Car: Porsche

Alas, there is nothing green about Porsche’s range, especially when it comes to exterior colours. I checked the Boxster and the Cayenne.

Yellow makes an appearance though and the light blue is pleasant. The Cayenne’s range is smaller, which I didn’t anticipate. I would have thought that customers in this price class might want to ensure their car was as personalised as possible.

No yellow. But there is a gold colour. Hmmm.

  1. The Cayman R was available in a lovely shade of green – very 70’s:

    and yellow:

  2. While playing with the car configurator on the Porsche website, I came across this option:

‘Custom colour mixed to any sample. Minimum lead time: six months – £ 2,832.00’

It is illustrated with a lovely example of Cayman GTS in a great shade of orange…

    1. Compared with the incredible amount of money people blow on extras, that seems pretty good value, especially when you’ll end up with something that is conspicuously tailored to your preferences. Of course, the rejoinder is ‘try reselling a metallic cerise car 3 years down the line’ but, even so, I’m disappointed more people don’t avail them of this. Except many people (especially men) are very self-conscious when it comes to choosing colour.

    2. Indeed, at only a small percentage of the total cost of the car I’d say it’s must-have to make your car properly unique. The self-consciousness factor is key though, and it’s probably just as well that few people trust their own taste in decisions of this nature.
