  1. Incorporating the badging into the lamp units was a distinctive thing, which I’m surprised didn’t catch on. It avoids wayward bits of chrome on the boot lid plus, in the days before they felt they could trust foam tape, the need to drill even more potential rot traps into the bodywork.

  2. I’d agree on Supermirafiori, but the badging on the left hand side tail-lamp seems to describe something other than FIAT. My first brother-in-lay had one of these as his first car. It made a lovely noise and had surprisingly sumptuous seats, but was as reliable as a politician’s promise.

  3. I think it has been hit up the rear. Blow it up and you can see a dent in the left rear wing and the bootlid appears to be raised on one side and lower than the wing on the right side. A polski version perhaps?

  4. I think the confusion here stems from the fact that at some point in its lifespan, this model lost its 131 appellation. This car however is early enough to be badged as both 131 and Mirafiori, so the script on the left hand tail lamp says ‘Fiat 131’, that on the right hand unit says ‘Supermirafiori’. Judging by the period Dublin registration number it’s most likely an Irish market car, although how it hasn’t dissolved in a puddle of ferrous oxide is God’s own mystery. The only thing I’m unsure about is the body-coloured bumpers and those twin tailpipes – neither of which were standard fare on the ‘Super’. I suspect these were later additions.

    1. My interpretation of the bumper was that it’s faded grey plastic. But it’s hard to tell from this picture.
