Myles Gorfe writes:   It’s been a busy month for the Grannie. After a bit of a hiatus, work on getting the car back on the road began to continue, albeit in a stop-go kind of way. To recap, the engine stalled during the last test. This has to be handled by my new mechanic, Ken Cutler of Ken Cutler & Co. Carriages.

I suppose I should back-track a bit and explain that my last mechanic, Frankie J, took early retirement in December – he had the car after it stalled and was booked to Continue reading “Our Cars: 1975 Ford Granada 2.0 L”

It has been very busy on the Granada front this last month. After a bit of a spell where suppliers played merry hell with deliveries (bootlid badges, gear lever, steering column shroud, headliner, sill kick plates and a grommet for the fuel system) and the mechanic had to recover from a slipped disc, things have finally moved on.

Frankie J., who has done most of the work on the car since March, put his back out big style trying to lift the engine out for a spot of routine maintenance. He started late on a Friday evening after everyone had gone home. The engine suffered no damage but Frankie spent the weekend in the workshop unable to Continue reading “Our Cars: 1975 Ford Granada 2.0 L”

If you want more than best, try the Coleman-Milne limousines! Coleman-Milne and Ford, two great British names, have been in partnership since 1953. And as C-M say at their website, the firm is the UK market leader in limos and they use their own British engineers. That means that the finest Ford engineering gets an extra dash of imperial style for when excellence is demanded. Take a look at these unique beauties… Continue reading “Gorfe’s Granadas: The Limousines”

It’s been a busy few months for the Granada, as usual. The rust in the floor pan has been dealt with but this has resulted in a lot of searching for replacement trim – must have used 40-odd hours on eBay in the last two weeks alone – and mechanical components … (not to mention a lot of driving about) … as the new parts and old ones aren’t fitting like they should. Seems like two different cars now it’s been welded up. The doors are a particular problem. Getting them to

It’s been a busy month for the Grannie. Len Gudgeon at the Granada Garage installed the new carburetor but had huge difficulties with a sheared bolt that had to be drilled out. Gavin Chide revised his bill from £74.01 to £89.34 due to an error with the VAT calculation. The rust spot on the outside of the A-pilllar turned out to conceal an extensive area of rot underneath which Len Gudgeon dealt with, taking about three and a half weeks to prepare the area and source the right paint for the re-spray. It’s been a busy month for the Grannie. Len Gudgeon at the Granada Garage replaced the boot hinges again. Over-lubrication with the wrong grade of oil meant the old ones failed to align and they became distorted during a closure test. A distributor cap and new carb showed up from a dealer in Antwerp but it was the wrong type, a three hole when I needed a four.

I then ordered a generic part from a remanufacturer in Estonia and Len had a lot of trouble fitting that before eventually cannibalising parts from the old one and fitting them to the new one. He tightened the driver’s seat runners which had worked free during the last trip plus he attended to sundry other jobs which Gavin Chide never got around to or said he “forgot”. It’s been a busy month for the Grannie. Gavin Chide at Dorris Motors de-greased the boot hinges which were over-lubricated. I had to buy three wiring harnesses from sellers in Estonia, Belgium and Austria before getting one that worked. Gavin Chide couldn’t fix the oil leak from the right side of the engine and overcharged for the harness work.

I had the car transported to Custom Wheels Ltd for further work which seemed to be successful. Having fitted the working wiring harness, I decided to Continue reading “Our cars: 1975 Ford Granada 2.0 L”

It’s been a busy month for the Grannie. Gavin Chide at Dorris Motors re-greased the boot hinges which were sticking again.
