Good luck to them, we at DTW cynically murmur. The story is not brand new but the launch date of October 20th is. Recent additions to the brandscape include Qoros, Borgward and DS and for two of them things don’t look so rosy. In the last decade China Brilliance had a go selling cars in Europe and that did not end so well. Existing middle market brands are not all thriving: Honda, Mitsubishi and Mazda struggle to support a full range. Rover and Saab have departed this turbulent world. Lancia teeters. Can it really be just three years since the Chery/Israel Corp joint venture Qoros made its debut to the world on a positively lavish Silk Road-themed stand, taking up a sizeable square metreage of Palexpo real estate? In 2013, it really did seem as if the Chinese industry really did have a product with potential to sell in sophisticated international markets, and a brand and people who could facilitate the vision. Qoros are not selling on looks and they are not selling on price. What then?
The 2014 Geneva expo had among its new car launches the Qoros 3 hatch, a variant of the Qoros 3 saloon. Founded in 2007, Qoros’ first car was presented at Geneva last year. This time around they have chopped some length off the car to woo customers in a lower price range.
